INTRODUCTION

Onam is an important festival of Kerala, that is culturally and traditionally rich and is being celebrated by everyone irrespective of their religion. The festival is a 10 day-long celebration and each day has its own importance with cultural events happening during those days. Two of the most famous and interesting events taking place during those days are Pulikali (or Tiger Dance) and the Aaranmula Vallamkali (or Snake Boat Race).

If you are a passionate photographer who would like to experience of a fascinating cultural side of India, join our street photography workshop during Onam. This workshop is designed to provide you with the opportunity to explore the multiple facets of these incredible events while being guided by 2 photographers who have extensive experience covering various festivals across India and who will provide you with the right tips to ensure a fruitful experience.

From witnessing interesting dances to documenting the joy of the public, we will provide you with the right environment for you to experience and capture the spirit and essence of this timeless tradition and go back home with wonderful memories and stunning photographs.

 WHAT YOU WILL TAKE BACK

PREREQUISITE

  1. A good pair of shoes.

  2. Camera with preferably a small lens and extra batteries.

  3. Videoconferencing via Google Meet for the theory session.

  4. An umbrella and rain cover in case we face the tail-end of the monsoon

PLANNING

  • DAY 0 (date to be confirmed)
    • Online Theory Session with workshop participants a few days prior to the workshop.

  • DAY 1 (7th September):

    • Arrival to Thrissur.

      • Nearest airport : Kochi International Airport

      • Nearest railway station : Thrissur

      • Nearest bus stop : Thrissur

    • Meet and greet​

  • Day 2 (8th September):

    • Full day photography documenting Pulikali​​

  • Day 3 (9th September):​

    • Full day photography documenting Snake Boat Race​

  • Departure from Thrissur on 10th Sept or 9th late night from Kochi (up to the participants)

The workshop is limited to 10 people on a first come first serve basis.

This ensures that the mentors will have enough time with each student individually and provide adequate feedback during the walks.

The participant's seat will be confirmed as soon as the payment is made.
